Heat and Bicycling to Nowhere

It is beyond hot! We are living on the sun. That’s the way it feels in southern Arkansas. Even on windy days, the breeze blows furnace heat swirling dying grass and dust. About the only thing a person can do during this time of the year is stay inside. Which, is a good thing. It puts my rear in the chair with fingers on the keyboard. Only, I tend to gaze out the window listing everything I should be doing in the yard.

I have immersed myself in the next book rolling around in my head. It is too hot to walk and think (my favorite thing). Too heated to sit on the porch daydreaming the characters physical movements and hearing the dialog. What does one do when confined. They purchase a stationary bike. I ride and think, write and edit, ride some more, delete and rewrite. After fifty thousand words and fifty miles of riding, I ask myself will anyone want to read this? Well, every pot has a lid, every book has a reader, and if nothing else, my legs will be toned.

Stay cool and hydrated.

Betty Almond

B. R. Almond is the author of For the Love of D. H. Lawrence. She enjoys fashioning suspense designed around family. The intricate emotional attachments mixed with how far one will go, be it to right a wrong, stay alive, or even for love is her sweet spot. And yes, she throws in a little romance. And if she can plug in a motorcycle scene, well that is icing on the cake.

A writer, farmer, and lover of motorcycles, she is from the southern region of Arkansas living the three L’s (Live, love, and laugh). When away from the keyboard, she toils around in the garden, dodges wildlife free ranging in her yard, and always on the search for a place to dive fork deep into great Cajun food. Mostly, she can be found walking in the woods thinking on her next writing project.
